Powder Scope is a snow-forecast site. We collect as little as possible: enough to run an account and, if you subscribe, to bill you. We don't run advertising, we don't use analytics or tracking cookies, and we don't sell or share your data.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address, an optional display name, and a securely hashed password. We never store your password itself.
- Your favourites. The resorts you star, so they follow you between devices.
- Subscription status (only if you subscribe). We store your Stripe customer reference and whether your subscription is active — never your card number. Card details go directly to Stripe and are never seen by, or stored on, our servers.
- Ordinary server logs. Our host records requests (IP address, timestamp, page, browser) for security and debugging. These are short-lived and not used to build a profile of you.
There is no advertising network, no analytics product, and no tracking pixel on this site. The only cookie we set is the one that keeps you signed in.
Why we use it
To sign you in and keep you signed in; to show your starred resorts; to send account emails you asked for (email verification and password resets); and, where relevant, to provide and bill a subscription. We only send you marketing email if you have separately opted in — you can opt out at any time.
Who processes your data
We use a small number of providers, each for one purpose:
- Neon — the database holding accounts, favourites and subscription status. Our database is hosted in Sydney, Australia.
- Vercel — hosting and content delivery for the site itself.
- Stripe — payment processing and card storage, if you subscribe.
- Zoho ZeptoMail — delivery of account emails.
These providers operate internationally, so your data may be processed outside Australia. We share data with them only so they can perform these services, and with nobody else — except where we're legally required to.
Forecast data is fetched from Open-Meteo by our servers, not by your browser. Requesting a forecast doesn't send anything about you to them.
Your data, your call
You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, or delete your account and everything attached to it. Email privacy@powderscope.com and we'll action deletion requests within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your account record and favourites; we may need to keep limited billing records where tax law requires it.
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. Server logs are retained only briefly by our host.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), passwords are hashed, and access to the database is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach ever affected your data we'll tell you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
Children
Powder Scope isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell account holders by email.
